Carton Excellence Award 2017: The Winners

Sustainable packaging ideas led proceedings at the 21st European Carton Excellence Awards. The prizes were presented to the winners on September 21 at the Award Gala of the ECMA Congress, Salzburg, to an international audience of senior personnel from across the industry.

Carton of the Year went to the Geometrie Cividât from Lucaprint with board supplied by BillerudKorsnas. Cividât is a premium gin from Cividale, Northern Italy, which needed packaging that would complement its style and aromatic product.

The carton stands out even though it is simple and understated. The diagonal cut divides the symmetrical design and the spherical bottle is secured inside, balancing design with practicality.

The chairman of the jury, Satkar Gidda, said, “I can honestly say that every year the entries just keep getting better and better including very well thought through designs that clearly hold the consumer at the forefront – as it should be. The whole industry is constantly aiming to improve what has gone before and advancing step by step.”

The new Public Award made the Excellence Awards’ reach even wider. The winner was Ventofor-Combi Pack produced by Lithosan, Turkey, with the board  from Metsä Board.
