Firstan Packaging, a leading UK independent carton maker, has purchased an EXPERTCUT 106 LER die-cutter from BOBST, completing the deal at drupa 2016.

The blank separating EXPERTCUT removes the need for the hand stripping of waste and tiresome manual separation of blanks during carton production and will help improve production efficiencies at Firstan, which this year celebrates 40 years of successful supply to the pharmaceutical, healthcare, cosmetics and food industries.

Paul Hartwig, production director at Firstan, said: “Ensuring that we maintain the levels of service that our customers expect from us means constantly reviewing our production efficiencies. Introducing blanking by bringing in an EXPERTCUT is a way of ensuring that our workflow is as smooth and efficient as possible.”

Stuart Taylor, BOBST sales manager for UK South and Ireland, added: “An extensive study that we carried out in conjunction with Firstan identified that blank separation would make a positive impact on their productivity. The EXPERTCUT 106 LER not only separates blanks at up to 9,000 sheets per hour, but also features our lateral register technology for perfect cut-to-print registration and highly consistent running.”

The EXPERTCUT will be seventh BOBST machine at Firstan’s plant in Godmanchester, Cambridgeshire, and will be its first blank separating die-cutter. The deal includes several additional service products for the company’s existing die-cutters, including Maintenance+ preventative maintenance programs and the supply of Oil Cleaners, which extend lubricant and machine life while reducing the need for service interventions.

This year, Firstan is celebrating 40 years in the industry, during which it has grown significantly thanks to high levels of customer service, professionalism and quality. In 2010 the company moved to its current super-site at Godmanchester.

The EXPERTCUT 106 LER will be delivered and installed before the end of the year.
