SPG Prints’s DSI UV inkjet press

SPGPrints will feature its DSI UV-inkjet printer and its digital laser engraving systems for plate and screen imaging, along with its rotary screen solutions for labels and packaging, on its booth (6445) at Labelexpo Americas 2016, September 13-15, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center, Rosemont, Illinois.

In live demonstrations, the company will provide a real-time experience of the simplicity, quality and productivity of its DSI digital UV-inkjet workflow and rotaLEN laser engraving system for screen imaging. With the booth’s while-you-wait demonstration, visitors may have their own files output on one of the devices. Files will be accepted in PDF or 1-bit TIFF formats, 100 ppmm or 2540 lpi.

Solutions for speed, quality, productivity

The 13-inch wide DSI UV-inkjet printer is custom-built as a stand-alone production unit with many options. Intermediate inline LED pinning stations and chill drum are standard, ensuring image crispness and stability on plastic and paper. In addition to CMYK, the press can feature up to six extra stations. Inks formulated and manufactured by SPGPrints offer chemical, scratch and sunlight resistance. The DSI press can also be used for second-pass printing applications, for example, by adding variable data, such as serialised or personalised information, on to previously analogue-printed labels.

rotaLEN is a direct laser engraving system for imaging rotary screens with resolutions up to 4,000dpi in one fully digital step. The engraver’s sealed CO2 laser ablates the printed areas without film, chemicals or water. Files can be prepared with SPGPrints’ software, providing optimum control when creating fine positive and negative images.

variLEX hybrid CtP processor is a single, digital imaging solution for high-definition flexo, dry-offset, screen and letterpress printing forms. It can be equipped with multi-beam diode lasers for ablating the black mask and/or for directly exposing UV-sensitive screen materials. variLEX is capable of ablation and exposure in one step and comes with SPGPrints’ own software solutions.

The company’s rotary screen printing solutions cover every process step: retrofittable RSI (Rotary Screen Integration) units perform seamlessly inline with other processes; non-woven nickel re-engraveable RotaMesh and reusable RotaPlate screens offer durability and stability at up to 330fpm (100m/min); analogue exposure and digital engraving prepress systems give complete control of the process. A workbench will demonstrate SPGPrints’ rotary screen workflow as a flexible, low-TCO way of applying numerous brand-enhancing, functional and tactile effects in one pass, from the no-label look to Braille.

Hank Guitjens, commercial manager label printing at SPGPrints, commented: “In SPGPrints, converters have a partner that offers solutions for every step in the rotary screen and digital inkjet workflows. Our Labelexpo Americas booth, with customer-driven demonstrations, gives an opportunity for visitors to talk to us about their application needs while appreciating the full breadth of the SPGPrints portfolio.”
