Tapes present converting opportunities

AVERY DENNISON is previewing a new retro-reflective conspicuity tape for contour markings on PVC curtain-sided vehicles: Avery Dennison V-6750B. This ECE 104-compliant durable tape delivers the safety of night time vehicle visibility on dark roads. Offered in roll form with segmented squares and integrated application tape, the product will be commercially available from May 2010, completing the Avery Dennison range of professional-grade conspicuity tapes for ECE 104 Class C requirements.

Offering a three-year life, properly applied, Avery Dennison V-6750B Conspicuity Tape is said to be a durable self-adhesive retro-reflective film tape offering colour fastness, stable photometric properties, and resistance to heat, moisture, chemicals, and corrosion. It employs prismatic cube corner technology in the polymeric face film, and features a permanent acrylic-based adhesive and a film release liner. It is available in three colours – white, yellow, and red – in rolls 50.8mm wide x 50m.

Omnicube

New prismatic retro-reflective films are also planned to be launched commercially by the company in the second quarter of 2010. Avery Dennison OmniCube prismatic materials’ intelligent cube technology makes it easier for drivers – of trucks, SUVs, vans, cars or motorcycles – to see and read traffic signs at night because more light is reflected back from a vehicle’s headlights hitting the sign. OmniCube full-cube prisms are designed to be 100 percent efficient and return approximately 60 percent of available light back to the driver, compared to only about 40 per cent with other prismatic sheeting products.

Avery Dennison OmniCube materials exceed all the requirements of ASTM D4956-09 for Type XI sheeting. They offer an applied life of ten years, and sometimes longer, depending on circumstances, and are designed to fulfill a broad range of engineering and commercial tasks.

‘Smart at every angle’

Comments Kevin Brinker, global product manager, Traffic and Safety, for Avery Dennison Graphics and Reflective Products division: “OmniCube was engineered with higher reflectivity to improve driver safety. Its intelligent cube technology efficiently returns light to drivers of all types of vehicles, making it smart at every angle.”

Saves waste in sign fabrication

Since OmniCube films are designed to provide uniform reflectivity, they allow sign fabricators to ‘nest’ shapes and letters – eliminating waste – without affecting the reflectivity of the sign. Graphics can also be oriented in any direction to maximise the output of every sheet.

Avery Dennison OmniCube prismatic materials will feature strongly in the extensive portfolio of Avery Dennison road traffic signage and safety products, incorporating traditional glass bead and prismatic reflective products for both engineering and commercial use – all of which are also omni-directional.
