The Recycling Association to join with retailers and packaging manufacturers to discuss design for recyclability

The Recycling Association will be a key sustainability partner at this year’s Label & Print exhibition, taking place at The NEC on 28 February and 1 March this year

Recycling challenges faced by the print and packaging sectors will be a key exhibition theme and the Association will be taking part in a panel discussion to provide visitors with an insight into new solutions and innovations that will help them tackle the issues of unrecyclable packaging.

With the sustainability of packaging becoming such a big topic in recent months, and with many consumers more aware of the damage packaging has on the environment, this debate will bring together recyclers, retailers and packaging industry representatives to discuss how this environmental impact can be reduced.

The Recycling Association chief executive Simon Ellin will be part of the panel discussion, chaired by Prismm Environmental managing director Mike Jackson, and will talk about where new innovations will come from and what the current challenges are within the recycling industry.

Commenting on the exhibition, Simon Ellin said: “We are delighted to be part of the Label & Print exhibition and be involved in this important panel debate on the problem of packaging recyclability. We have been beating the drum about material and design impacts on recyclability and this exhibition will provide us with the opportunity to discuss directly with the wider supply chain how we can all work together to drive improvements.

“There are so many factors to take into account, and recycling is just one of them. But by working together we can develop new, sustainable solutions.

“I look forward to hearing the other speaker’s thoughts on this issue.”

The panel will also include Tesco head of packaging James Bull, a representative from packaging materials manufacturer Foilco, packaging design company 1HQ global technical director David Harding-Brown and Jon Clark, general manager of BPIF Cartons.

The Label & Print exhibition takes place on the 28 February and 1 March 2018 at the NEC in Birmingham. The panel debate will take place between 12:00-13:00, 28 February on the ECO Pack Stage.
