Dow Performance Silicones to deliver talk on new BOPP silicone slip additive

Dow Performance Silicones, a global business unit of DowDuPont Materials Sciences division, will deliver a technical talk on its new Dow Corning HMB-6301 Masterbatch — a slip additive for bi-axially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) film — at the Applied Market Information (AMI) Multilayer Packaging Films Conference, November 7-9, 2017, Maritim Hotel, Cologne, German. Jean-Pierre Patte, senior sales developer at Multibase SA, will give the presentation, titled ‘Dedicated Silicone Masterbatch for Long Term Slip in BOPP Films’, during Session two: Improving Performance, November 8, 4:30pm CEST.

The new Dow Corning HMB-6301 Masterbatch has launched this week at Fakuma 2017, October 17-21, in Friedrichshafen, Germany. It is a technology that delivers stable, long-lasting slip performance without migration to facilitate film processing for packaging production. Christophe Paulo, global segment leader at Dow Performance Silicones, said: “New Dow Corning HMB-6301 Masterbatch successfully addresses the long-standing disadvantages of conventional slip agents for packaging production using BOPP film and checks all the boxes for optimised slip performance. By replacing traditional organic waxes with this advanced, new masterbatch technology, film converters and processors can achieve higher quality, consistency and productivity.”

New, patent-pending Dow Corning HMB-6301 Masterbatch lowers coefficient of friction (COF), which causes deformations and uneven thickness that negatively affect BOPP film’s appearance and can lead to downtime and interruptions. It immediately improves slip performance and remains stable over time and temperature. The Dow Performance Silicones material is non-migrating, and will not transfer from the film’s silicone-treated face to the opposite, corona-treated face. By avoiding impact on surface tension of the corona-treated face, the masterbatch preserves the effectiveness of downstream printing and metallisation.

Dow Corning HMB-6301 Masterbatch is engineered for BOPP and PP cast films used mainly in food bags, wrappers, packages and pouches. It is food contact compliant under the European Union (EU) 10-2011 regulation, with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approval pending.

At the AMI Multilayer Packaging Films Conference, Dow Performance Silicones technical experts will be available to answer questions and discuss the company’s broad portfolio of silicone additives for film applications.
