Amcor, is launching an enhanced version of its top-selling UniPak 1 kg pot for the dairy market, reducing material usage while maintaining the performance, robustness and line compatibility required for this sector.

Amcor says that, with a combined weight of 31.6 g at standard material for the pot and lid, its new UniPak is material-efficient without compromising strength, durability or end user convenience. Compared to the company’s previous container of this size, the reduced weight of the new pack can deliver an up to nine percent reduction in carbon emissions based on anticipated production volume.

The new lightweight round container is made entirely from polypropylene. This means that the pack is recycle-ready and can be recycled in countries with the appropriate infrastructure in place. Despite its lighter weight, the UniPak retains its robustness to provide product protection throughout the supply chain, and its more compact dimensions allow easy handling in the home.

The lightweighted compression molded liquid-tight lid offers excellent top load strength and remains fastened to the pot, even for most cases of severe squeezing, while improved tamper-evidence enhances product security and provides reassurance to consumers.

“The dairy sector is continuing to grow with, in particular, a strong showing in larger yoghurt formats,” said Katrina Burrett, product line director, containers & reusables, Amcor Global Rigids Packaging Solutions.

“For dairy packaging, the 1 kg size is especially popular, and our new UniPak has been designed to enable brand owners to maximise opportunities with a high-performance solution that also supports their sustainability objectives. This new pack demonstrates that meaningful lightweighting doesn’t have to come at the expense of strength or performance, and that’s exactly what our customers are asking for.”

To support brand differentiation, UniPak is compatible with a wide range of decoration options, including in-mold labelling and is available in multiple different shapes – square, rectangular, round and oval – and sizes. Shared lid diameters across different formats allow companies to simplify inventory and supply chains. Each pack has also been designed to optimise pallet utilisation for improved logistics and a protective collar protects the lid and improves the stability of the pots.
