Northern Paper Board wins top manufacturing award

UK Packaging firm Northern Paper Board has received a regional manufacturing award from business secretary Vince Cable. The company based in Skipton, North Yorkshire was chosen as SME Manufacturer of the Year in annual business awards run by the Yorkshire Post newspaper.

“Congratulations to Northern Paper Board,” comments business editor Bernard Ginns. “Our judges said our winner is achieving growth based on the courage to invest – they’re increasing sales despite the flat UK economy.  It’s a great example of an innovative family-owned business.”

Northern Paper Board was also a finalist in two categories: SME of the Year and Investment Project of the Year in the 2012 UK Packaging Awards staged at the London Hilton and while not winning, sales director Paul Curran says: “We were up against some fairly hefty competition and were honoured just to be shortlisted for two industry-leading accolades.”

Northern Paper Board, the UK’s second largest manufacturer of solid board boxes primarily for the meat, poultry, fish and horticultural packaging sectors, is nearing the end of a £2.4 million expansion and investment programme at its six-acre site. The company remains on track to achieve record turnover of £10 million in the current financial year.
