One Coating Process – Many Possibilities The Contact-free Bead Coat Process

Since 2008 the KROENERT-BMB-DRYTEC group has worked on a new coating solution capable of meeting the widest range of requirements in one system. After extensive testing at our in-house Technology Center, the new and reliable production alternative is ready: the Bead Coat process.

The Bead Coat process permits various options:

–     Contact-free coating

–     Transfer of pre-metered coating material, no backflow, no material circulation

–     Adjustable wet coating quantities, from <1 to 500 ml/m2

–     Variable viscosity, from 5 to 10.000 mPa s

–     Continuously variable speed control from 0,1 to 300 m/min

–     Curtain coating technology for speeds in excess of 300 m/min

The new Bead Coat process is now standard on the KROENERT RECO and LabCo series machines. For high precision applications, the slot die is located at the 12 o ‘clock position and the distance to the coating roller is minimal (Fig. 1 and 2). Individual system components such as the coating die, coating roller and material supply system are optimized for the bead coat process, and the precise adjustability of the rolls, coating point and temperature control ensure high quality and reproducibility

This process offers an important alternative to conventional anilox roll technology, particularly in the case of coating for organic photovoltaics and OLEDs. The new process works equally well for standard applications such as adhesive coatings. Contact-free coating is also effective at the low production speeds required for these processes.
