Sonoco strengthens UK manufacturing capability
Sonoco UK has strengthened its UK manufacturing capability with the acquisition of ABPS – a manufacturer of printed, plain and labelled cardboard tubes.
The acquisition which follows the purchase of Robinsons Paper Board Packaging last year enables Sonoco to produce small ‘incubator’ runs for customers to trial different products and packaging concepts .
“Sonoco has carved a niche in producing large quantities of low, medium and high barrier products,” explains Sean Cairns, general manager, Sonoco Consumer Products Europe.
“With the acquisition of ABPS equipment and technology we are now able to deliver small runs to help our customers test the market with a product or design before up-scaling to a larger run using our existing high speed lines.
“This allows them to be more innovative and experiment with new lines, with most of the risk attached and a large part of the investment removed.”
There are also benefits to existing customers of ABPS: “Existing customers will still have the same levels of local service and local delivery that they have previously enjoyed but now have access to the expertise of the wider Sonoco family and the peace of mind that comes from working with a world leading manufacturer.”
